Major Events - 10 Aug: naval skirmish off Niagara - 2 US ships captured; British continue to contain US troops at Fort George; 25 Aug: 1500 New York militia under McClure to assemble for duty at Fort George - US planning to withdraw regulars for attack on either Kingston or Montreal; 10 Sep: Battle of Lake Erie - US victory means Harrison's US army set to invade and Procter's British army preparing to retreat up the Thames; 4 Oct: US Secretary of War (Armstrong) authorizes the destruction of Newark as necessary for defense of Fort George but does not authorize destruction of Fort George; 5 Oct: British under Procter defeated at Moraviantown - Tecumseh killed; US move 3000 troops from Fort George to Sackett's Harbor - British begin to pull troops from Niagara to Kingston to counter US at Sackett's Harbor.

Local Events - 17 Sep: P. Porter leads volunteer force across Niagara River to Fort Erie area - take 4 prisoners and return to Black Rock; 21 Sep: US force under Chapin goes to Sugar Loaf to try and capture British detachment there - British withdraw first, so Chapin raids stores, then leaves.

Major Events: US troops at Fort George, now mostly NY militia with a small force of regulars under Scott - British have retreated to Burlington heights when defeat at Moraviantown becomes known; US advance on Burlington Heights cancelled when McClure learns Scott and the regulars leaving Fort George to join Wilkinson at Sackett's Harbor; 24 Oct US General Harrison arrives at Buffalo; 27 Oct US (Hampton) stopped at Battle of Chateauguay and retires back into NY; 30 Oct US (Wilkinson) abandons attack on Kingston in favour of attack on Montreal; Harrison at Fort George with 1100 regulars plus McClure's militia - intends to attack British at Burlington Heights; 3 Nov Harrison ordered to Sackett's Harbor with his troops to provide defense of the port for the winter; 8 Nov Hampton refuses to bring his division to the St. Lawrence to cooperate with Wilkinson in attack on Montreal; 11 Nov Battle of Crysler's Farm - British victory; 13 Nov Wilkinson's army goes to French Mills for winter quarters; 23 Nov small US marauder force repulsed by Bostwick near Dover; 9 Dec NY militia at Fort George term of enrollment ends and most leave for home; 10 Dec McClure burns Newark and Fort George before leaving Upper Canada; 10/11 Dec British begin to reoccupy Niagara; McClure orders hot shot be fired at village of Queenston in hopes of burning the village to deny British winter quarters.
