With the exceptions noted below, a person may register as a candidate in the Fort Erie municipal elections by completing the prescribed Nomination Paper Form 1, the Town Qualification and Registration forms and filing them together with the prescribed nomination fee with the Town Clerk, Clerk's office, 1 Municipal Centre Dr, Fort Erie.
Exception: Candidates for the French Language Public and French Language Separate School Board Trustee serving the Fort Erie area must file their nomination papers with the Clerk of the City of Welland, 60 East Main Street, Welland.

What is the fee?
The filing fee for candidates running for the office of Mayor is $200. For the office of a Councillor or School Board Trustee, the fee is $100. Payment must be made in cash, debit card, certified cheque, or money order payable to the “Town of Fort Erie”.

Where can nomination papers be picked up?
Nomination papers are available now for pick up in the Office of the Clerk, Town of Fort Erie, 1 Municipal Centre Drive, Fort Erie, Ontario between the hours 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 pm. Nomination papers must be filed by the 2:00 p.m. deadline on September 12, 2014.

Who can be nominated for office?
Candidates in the 2014 municipal election must be eligible electors. To be an eligible elector, a person must be:
- a Canadian citizen
- at least 18 years of age
- the owner or lessee of property in the Town of Fort Erie, or the spouse of the owner or lessee
- not prohibited by law from voting
- not disqualified from holding municipal office by any legislation
Note: Candidates running for the office of school board trustee must reside within the jurisdiction of the board and be a supporter of that board

When can I start putting up signs?
After you have registered as a candidate and have completed the nomination process with the Clerk, you can start putting up signs to advertise your candidacy.above
When can I start fundraising and spending monies on the campaign?
After you have registered as a candidate and have completed the nomination process with the Clerk and have opened a campaign bank account, you can begin fund raising and/or spending monies on your campaign.

How do I check the Voters’ List?
The Voters’ List will be available for viewing from on or about September 2, 2014 to Voting Day in the Office of the Clerk, 1 Municipal Centre Drive, during normal business hours (8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday).
If any person’s name is not on the Voters’ List, or his/her name is on the list incorrectly, contact the Clerk’s Office at 905-871-1600 (ext. 2211) for the appropriate form to have his/her name added, deleted or corrected.

If I own more than one property in Fort Erie, can I vote more than once?
No. You can vote only once for each of the offices of Mayor, Regional Councillor, Ward Councillor and School Board Trustee. Your qualifying address (what appears on the voters’ list) will be determined by:
- your primary residence, if more than one property is owned within the Town of Fort Erie
- the commercial / industrial property you own or in which you are a tenant, if your primary residence is not within the Town of Fort Erie. However, you will not be eligible to vote for School Board Trustee based on your commercial / industrial property. The commercial/industrial property must be registered in your personal name and not a corporation or numbered company.

When is the 2014 Municipal Election?
The 2014 Municipal Election will be on Monday, October 27, 2014.

Where and at what time can I vote?
You will receive a voter identification card by mail in mid-September if your name is on the Voters’ List. This notice will tell you the date, time and place where you can vote as well as advance poll dates and times. In the meantime, you can visit the “Voting Locations" page to find out your voting location and advance poll options.
If you do not receive a voter identification card by early October, please contact the Clerk's Office at 871-1600 ext 2217 or 2214.

Eligible electors in the Town of Fort Erie will be voting for the following offices:

Councillor – Ward 1 (1 to be elected)

Niagara Catholic District School Board Trustee – English Language Separate School

Who can vote in Municipal Elections?
A person is entitled to be an elector at an election held in a local municipality, if on voting day he or she is:
- a Canadian citizen;
- at least 18 years old as of Voting Day;
- residing in the local municipality or an owner or tenant of land there, or the spouse of such owner or tenant; and
- not otherwise prohibited from voting.
